  1. Peter Maclean (my great uncle) was only 37 when he got killed. He left Scotland in 1908 to mine for gold in Kargoolie NSW. He joined up with the 4th Aus Reg on the outbreak of WW1 and ended up in France. His brother Roderick (my grandfather) served in the 7th Seaforths and the two of them met up for the 1st time in 9 years one morning in the trenches. By that afternoon heavy fighting broke out and both regiments took heavy casualty's. My grandfather spent the whole night looking for Peter calling to him gaelic. When morning came he found him but he was dead. That very same day back home in Crowlista, my grandmother had given birth to my Uncle Neil. It must have been some day for my Grandfather to lose a brother and gain a son at the same time.

    Roddy M Maclean
