Seaman Kenneth Macaskill, who died in the sinking of the Merchant Fleet Auxiliary steamer Eleanor, was lost in the English Channel 9 miles south of the Needles, Isle of Wight, and not in the Irish Channel.
Where did you find the photo of this man please?
Dave Wendes
Dave,
The portrait is from "Loyal Lewis Roll of Honour 1914-1918", a publication by the Stornoway Gazette. It can only be consulted at the library in Stornoway.
The Roll of Honour is riddled with minor and major factual errors like the one you highlight. Thank you for spotting.
